Fiat Debuts 500e Electric Car, Chrysler’s First EV

Fiat Debuts 500e Electric Car, Chrysler’s First EV

It almost seems too logical. From the moment Fiat unveiled the new 500 in 2007 it seemed like a perfect marriage and an inevitability that an electrified version would follow. 5 years later, Fiat finally unveiled the much anticipated 500e at the Los Angeles Auto Show this month.

Powered by a 364-volt, 24 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that produces 147 lb-ft of torque. With expected charge times at about 4 hours and a city range of 160km, the 500e should provide good competition for other EVs currently on the market.

“The all-electric hatchback delivers an estimated 116 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) city and 100 MPGe highway (186 kmpge and 160 kmpge). As Chrysler Group LLC’s first road-going retail electric vehicle, the Fiat 500e eschews the addition of an “Eco” button as seen on competitive EVs.”

No further details on production, pricing or Canadian availability just yet.
