Mazda Taps Canada’s Gregory Young For Top Communications Job
The biggest communications position at Mazda has been handed over to a Canadian in a move that is rare on several fronts.
Young was the former head of communications for Mazda Canada and had been with the company since 1991. An inside-hire alone would make this an interesting story. However, coupled with Young being non-Japanese and a Canadian, adds to the uniquely of this appointment.
Appointing a foreigner to lead corporate communications is something of an anomaly in Japan’s notoriously insular car industry. Nissan Motor Co. is the only other company to have done so. Its global communications long have been headed by Simon Sproule, a native of Britain. - Automotive News
